What is Get Outside – Play?
Get Outside – Play! is a six week program and part of our Get Outside Challenge geared towards getting children under twelve outdoors to play! From June 6th to July 15th, kids can track the number of hours they spend playing outside and win prizes along the way. Outdoor play can be anything! Climbing a tree, scaling a park playscape, going to the pool, softball practice, summer camp, even having a tea party with your favorite stuffed animals- as long as you are outside! Participants will be given a log sheet to track their time spent playing outside. These sheets will be available at Cope Environmental Center, Morrison-Reeves Library, and to print from this website starting June 6th. For every 15 hour benchmark a kid reaches, they earn a special prize redeemable at Cope Environmental Center or Morrison-Reeves Library!
Log 45 hours of outdoor play to win these prizes!
These prizes are first come, first serve, so claim them fast!
15 hours Tickets to a Richmond Jazz Baseball Game! (350 available)
30 hours Unlimited use pass to the Megaslide at Marker’s Wally World! (300 available)
45 hours One hour pass to Valley’s Edge Snow Tubing! (250 available)
Partnership with Richmond’s Morrisson-Reeves Library
GO PLAY!’s program intentionally mirrors Morrisson-Reeves Library’s Summer Reading Program, which challenges kids ages 0-12 to READ between June 1 and August 1 after setting their own goals. Think you can finish both programs? So do we!
Cope Environmental Center and Morrisson-Reeves Library will be coordinating free summer events each week of the programs! Our Nature Play Days are free events that get kids moving outdoors and teach about the importance of healthy living.
